The Morning Ritual
Carol Owns One Savings Rate That Will Not Move at Two O’Clock Today.
|
Carol is `64` and keeps a paper folder of rates the way other people keep recipes. Bank savings. Two certificates. A money fund. She wrote them all in pencil, because pencil is honest about what happens next.
This afternoon at two, Eastern, a committee announces a number, and most of that folder eventually follows it. One line will not. She wrote that one in pen.

Five years from now, there are going to be two types of retirees in America.
One is greeting strangers at Walmart in a blue vest. Not because they want to. Because the war in Iran was the first domino that knocked their retirement sideways and they never saw it coming.
The other is sitting on a beach with a margarita. Not because they got lucky. Because they understood what the Iran war was really about and made one simple move.
Here's what most people are missing.
The war in Iran isn't about nukes. It's about oil being sold in yuan instead of dollars.
Every barrel that leaves the dollar system makes your savings worth less. And 40 countries are following Iran's lead.
The retiree at Walmart kept everything in the same 401(k) their advisor set up ten years ago. They watched the dollar weaken. They watched inflation eat their savings. They hoped somebody in Washington would fix it. Nobody did.
The retiree on the beach moved a portion of their retirement into the one asset that goes up when the dollar goes down. Took 15 minutes. No taxes. No penalties. And they slept fine while everyone else panicked.
Same starting point. Same savings. One decision made the difference.
A free report called “The Great Gold Reset” shows you exactly what the Iran war means for your dollars, why it's accelerating a shift that was already underway, and the simple move that separates the Walmart greeters from the beach retirees.

In One Sip
► The rate decision lands this afternoon. Deposit rates react to it on the bank's timetable, not yours.
► Series I savings bonds bought now pay `4.26%`. That rate was set on May 1 and holds for everything issued through October 31.
► It is two numbers stuck together. A fixed `0.90%` and an inflation piece of `1.67%` that resets twice a year.
► The cap is `$10,000` per person per calendar year. Electronic only since January 2025. The old paper bond by tax refund is gone.
► The quiet part. That fixed `0.90%` is the only piece you ever get to choose, and it stays with the bond for `30` years. The next announcement is November 1, and it moves either way.

Why It Matters for Your Money
Carol and her husband can each put in `$10,000` this year. On `$20,000` at `4.26%`, that is about +`$852` over a year if the rate holds where it is.
The durable part is smaller and better. The fixed `0.90%` pays about +`$90` a year on `$10,000`, on top of whatever inflation does, for three decades. A bank can cut its rate on a Tuesday. This piece it cannot touch.
The cost of changing your mind is real. Cash out before five years and you hand back three months of interest, roughly -`$107` on `$10,000` at today's rate. Before twelve months you cannot cash out at all.
So this is not a parking spot for money you might need in March. It is the shelf below that.

Love him or hate him, and if you're reading this, you love him, Trump plays to win.
He won in 2016 when nobody thought he could.
He came back in 2024 when they threw everything they had at him.
And right now, he's preparing what insiders are calling the most consequential financial executive order any American president has considered in over 50 years.
This isn't about tariffs. It's not about the border.
It's about something that touches every dollar in your pocket, your savings account, and your retirement.
The last time Washington made a move like this:
One asset gained 2,300% in under 10 years.
The people who saw it coming changed their financial lives forever.
This time the stakes are even higher.
The U.S. is sitting on 8,133 tonnes of gold valued at 1973 prices.
One executive order from Trump corrects that, and sets off the biggest wealth transfer most living Americans have ever witnessed.
Trump's base has always been the people the system forgot. Hard-working Americans who played by the rules while Washington rigged the game.
This is your chance to get ahead of it, before the order is signed, using the same strategy the ultra-wealthy have always used.

The Wealth Angle
Here is where it gets interesting. Ask why you have never had this pitched to you at a bank.
There is no commission in it. No advisor gets paid, no branch has a quota, and the government caps you at `$10,000` anyway. An instrument that pays no fee does not get advertised. That is the whole reason most households have never heard the words composite rate.
Two things can be true. The cap means this can never be a plan by itself, and if inflation falls the rate falls with it. The floor is zero, so the bond never loses value, but zero is a real possibility and worth saying out loud.
I watch the fixed number and ignore the headline one. The headline is weather. The fixed rate is the part you actually sign for.
|
☕ Key Insight: Some rates are announced at two in the afternoon and change your paperwork by Friday. One is announced twice a year, quietly, and then stays put for thirty years. Only one of those is worth a calendar reminder.
|
Coffee Break Move
Write two dates on the folder. October 31, the last day this year's fixed rate is available. November 1, the day the next one is announced. That is the entire decision.
If you are comfortable: open the account before the end of October, not on the last afternoon. Setting one up takes a bank routing number and some patience with a government website.
If you are stretched: you do not need `$10,000`. The minimum purchase is small, and the `4.26%` is the same on a hundred dollars as it is on ten thousand.
At two o'clock a room of people will vote on a rate. Carol already owns one they cannot reach.
