Thursday Opens the One Window to Cut Your 2027 Drug Costs
If you are on Medicare, there is probably a plan booklet on your counter right now, still in its plastic sleeve. Most of us glance at the premium on page one and put it back down. The same plan rolls over next year without a single click.
Here is what caught my eye. On Thursday, October 15, Medicare open enrollment begins. And the number on page one is the least useful number in that booklet for working out what you will actually pay.
Your drug plan resets every January. Our partner below argues something much bigger is being reset too.

There was no vote.
Not a single bill was passed.
And it wasn’t even debated in Congress.
No one has explained what is happening, or shown you how to prepare.
But my new research suggests America’s money is being replaced all the same.
A dollar reset on this scale has happened only once before in our nation’s 250-year history.
That was back in 1974, with a secret deal struck in a Saudi desert that quietly determined the financial fate of an entire generation of Americans.
It created extraordinary wealth for some, while casting millions more into relative poverty.
Now, 52 years later, it’s happening again.
How you save, how you invest, how you protect everything you’ve built… it’s all being reshaped by what Fortune calls “the biggest change to the world’s relationship with the dollar” in a generation.
It’s all laid out here for you in my important new briefing.

► Medicare open enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, 2026. Changes take effect January 1. Source: CMS.
► The yearly cap on what you pay for covered Part D drugs rises to `$2,400` in 2027, up from `$2,100`. Source: CMS.
► The most a Part D plan can charge as a deductible rises to `$700`, up from `$615`. Source: CMS.
► Monthly premiums do not count toward that `$2,400` cap. Neither do drugs your plan does not cover. Source: Medicare.gov.
► The buried part: each plan keeps its own drug list and its own price tiers. The same pill can cost very different amounts from one plan to the next.
Why It Matters for Your Money
Picture two drug plans for the same person, both taking one brand-name prescription.
Plan A has the low premium, `$15` a month. But it puts that drug on a high tier, at `$100` a month. That comes to `$1,380` for the year.
Plan B costs `$45` a month. It puts the same drug on a lower tier, at `$30` a month. That comes to `$900` for the year, about +`$480` in your pocket.
These two plans are made-up examples, but the pattern is real. The cheaper premium can be the more expensive plan.
And if a drug falls off your plan’s list entirely, the `$2,400` cap no longer protects you on it. That is where bills can climb past the cap.
Medicare is one system you count on without seeing how it works. Our partner below asks the same question about where your savings sit.

Everything You Own Runs on Someone Else’s Network
Your savings exist only where a bank, a custodian and a federal framework all agree they do. For most people that is fine. For savers who want one asset that does not depend on that chain, physical gold has been the answer for generations. Priority Gold’s free guide covers how it works inside an IRA, and what it costs.

The Wealth Angle
Here is where it gets interesting. Most people judge a plan by its premium because that is the number printed largest.
The real cost of a drug plan is three numbers added together. The premium, the deductible, and what you pay for each prescription. Most people only check the first one.
Think about that for a second. The plan that looks cheapest on the mailer can cost hundreds more by December.
I think the best hour a Medicare household can spend this fall is typing a drug list into the Medicare Plan Finder. It is free, and it does the adding for you.

It’s about something that touches every dollar in your pocket, your savings account, and your retirement.

☕ Key Insight:
The 2027 Part D cap is `$2,400`, but premiums and uncovered drugs sit outside it. Compare plans on total yearly cost, premium plus drugs, between October 15 and December 7.
Coffee Break Move
Before your second cup, write down every prescription you take, with the dose and how often.
If you are comfortable: enter that list on Medicare.gov’s Plan Finder after October 15. Sort the results by total yearly cost, not by premium.
If money is tight: ask about the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan. It spreads drug costs into monthly payments instead of one big bill early in the year. Your local SHIP office offers free one-on-one help too.
Take the booklet out of its sleeve this week. The window closes December 7, and next year’s costs get set inside it.
