Smart money moves before breakfast
Inspiration Quote for the Day
“Know what you own, and know why you own it.”
Peter Lynch
The Morning Ritual
Two Rates in Your House Move by Contract on Wednesday. One Moves by Permission.
Somewhere in a drawer is a credit card agreement you have never read past the first page. Somewhere in a folder is a home equity statement. Both of them contain the same short phrase, and that phrase decides what Wednesday afternoon costs you.
The phrase is prime plus a number. Your number. It is different for every household, and most of us have never looked it up. This is a quiet Sunday, and finding it takes about six minutes.

Editor’s Note: Before sharing his trades with everyday people, Larry Benedict managed money for the Bank of New York, sovereign wealth funds, and some of America’s wealthiest families. During the 2008 crash alone, he generated $95 million for his clients. Now he’s revealing the one ticker he believes sits at the center of Trump’s new Fed moves. Click here to see it, or read more below.
Dear Reader,
Trump’s Federal Reserve has made a change that could give prepared investors the chance to make rapid gains…
While everyone else is still trying to work out what happened.
According to hedge fund legend Larry Benedict, one ticker sits directly in the path of these faster, less predictable moves.
Click here to discover Larry Benedict’s Fed ticker.
Since taking charge in May, Kevin Warsh has stopped signaling what the Fed is likely to do next.
He has dropped its “forward guidance”…
Shortened its policy statements…
And even raised the possibility of holding fewer rate-setting meetings.

The effect has already been felt.
Reuters says Warsh’s first Fed meeting “blindsided traders” and forced markets to rapidly rethink where interest rates were heading.
Wall Street fears less warning could mean sharper market swings.
Larry Benedict sees the opportunity to profit from them.
Larry has spent 40 years trading around Fed decisions and generated $274 million for his hedge fund clients.
Now he is revealing exactly where he plans to position before the Fed’s next decision on September 16.
And he’s giving away the ticker completely free.
Watch Larry’s briefing and get the ticker before September 16.
Best wishes,

In One Sip
► The Fed meets Tuesday and Wednesday. The decision lands Wednesday afternoon.
► After Friday's inflation report, market pricing for a quarter point increase jumped to nearly `90%`, from about `70%` the day before. Two weeks ago the same meeting was closer to a coin flip.
► The prime rate is simply the top of the Fed's range plus `3`. It has sat at `6.75%` since December 2025. A quarter point makes it `7.00%`.
► Credit cards and home equity lines are written as prime plus a margin. Cards reprice on the next billing cycle. Equity lines usually adjust monthly.
► The quiet part. That famous card protection is `45` days of notice and no increase on the balance you already carry. It does not apply when the increase comes from the index moving. No letter. No warning. It lands on the old balance too.
Why It Matters for Your Money
Take an ordinary house. `$8,000` sitting on a card, `$50,000` drawn on the equity line. That is `$58,000` priced off prime, and a quarter point on it runs about -`$145` a year.
Traders are not pricing one move. They are pricing more than one before the year ends. Three quarter points on that same `$58,000` is about -`$435`, and none of it arrives as a decision you get to make.
The other direction is real too, and smaller. The same quarter point adds roughly +`$62` a year on `$25,000` of savings that tracks the market. On savings that does not track it, nothing.
One side of your balance sheet reprices by rule, in days. The other reprices when somebody at the bank decides it should.
The Wealth Angle
Here is where it gets interesting. The asymmetry is not a conspiracy, it is contract language. Your loan is tied to a public index the lender does not control, so it has to move. Your deposit is tied to nothing at all, so it does not have to.
That is also why the rule about advance notice has a hole in it. A lender raising your rate on purpose owes you `45` days. An index raising it owes you nothing, because the lender did not do it.
Two things can be true. If the Fed holds on Wednesday, none of this happens, and anyone telling you it is settled is guessing with confidence. The number itself moved from a coin flip to near certainty in under three weeks. That alone tells you what forecasting is worth here.
So I do not trade the meeting. I write down my margin once and know, before anybody announces anything, what a quarter point does to my own paper.
☕ Key Insight:
Wednesday is not a forecast you have to make. It is a number you already signed. The only question left is whether you know what it says before the announcement, or three weeks later on a statement.
Coffee Break Move
Open the card agreement and search for the word prime. The line reads prime plus something. Write that something on the envelope. Do the same on the home equity statement, where it usually sits near the rate box.
If you are comfortable: multiply every prime linked balance you carry by `0.0025`. That is one quarter point, in dollars, per year. If the answer bothers you, this is the week to deal with the balance rather than the forecast.
If you are stretched: on `$3,000` a quarter point is about `$7.50` a year. Nothing. Look anyway, because the point is knowing which of your rates is on a leash and which one is not.
Wednesday afternoon a room of people will vote. Your margin was decided years ago, by you.
