States Are Holding About $70 Billion, and Roughly One Household in Seven Has a Share of It
|
An old deposit. A final paycheque from a job you left. A refund that arrived at an address you had already left. None of it disappears. It changes hands.
After a set period of silence, the bank or employer holding it has to send it to your state. The state then waits for you to ask.

The Coffee Company Building an Empire No One Saw Coming
$1M to $26M in revenue. In four years.
Green Coffee Company is Colombia’s #1 largest coffee producer, and they’ve built one of the fastest-growing retail footprints in the U.S. coffee market.
They hold exclusive U.S. and Canada distribution rights to Juan Valdez, Colombia’s most iconic coffee brand. Their premium coffee is now on 3,000+ major retail shelves at locations like Target and Walgreens, while partnerships have been secured with the Chicago Cubs, LA Rams, U.S. National Parks, Carnival Cruise, and more.
But they’re not stopping there.
To meet their skyrocketing demand, GCC’s just announced a new processing facility in Colombia to fuel the next stage of growth. It’s great timing, too. They’re projecting to double their production volume to 5.1 million pounds of coffee this year.
Private investments are speculative and illiquid. Returns are not guaranteed. Review the offering circular before investing.
Under Regulation A, a company may change its share price by up to 20% without requalifying the offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Why It Matters for Your Money
The word that does the work here is dormancy. It is the stretch of silence a company records before handing your money to the state. It runs on inactivity, not on anything you did wrong.
That distinction matters more than it sounds. An account you deliberately leave alone looks identical, on paper, to an account you forgot.
The clock has also been getting shorter. A move from five years to three catches an account you check every four years. Nothing unusual has to happen.
The money is not lost when that happens. Most states hold it indefinitely and there is no deadline to claim. It simply stops being where you left it.
One more thing worth knowing. Recovery firms will offer to find it for a cut, and they search the same free public databases your state publishes.

President Trump secured a deal to seize control over a colossal new source of oil.
According to reports, we’re talking about 65 billion barrels spread across 17 Venezuelan oil fields. For comparison, the United States currently has roughly 46 billion barrels of proven domestic oil. Combined, that would put Washington in control of around 7% of all proven reserves on the planet.
Because I don’t believe this is just about oil. It’s about the U.S. dollar.
The last time America reset its monetary system, in 1974, oil sat at the very heart of it. A secret pact with Saudi Arabia created the petrodollar, and changed the financial destiny of an entire generation.
And if I’m right, the consequences won’t stop at the gas pump. This could affect the purchasing power of the money you’ve saved, the value of the assets inside your investment portfolio, and which companies receive the first flood of capital as Trump’s New Dollar takes hold.

The Wealth Angle
Two things can be true. Escheatment exists so money is not quietly kept by the bank that lost track of you, which is a real protection. The same rule also means a state can take custody of an asset you were holding on purpose.
A senator asked the administrators about exactly that in April, after the shift toward shorter windows and inactivity triggers. The question was whether a buy and hold investor now looks like an absent one.
My own habit is a `10` minute job once a year. I search my name, my spouse’s, and every state we have lived in. The money stays with the state where the company was, not where you are now.
Maiden names and misspellings are worth trying too. The record is only as findable as the name the company had on file.

|
☕ Key Insight: Nothing about this is hidden. The databases are public and the search is free. What stands between a household and its own money is that the name was never typed in.

Coffee Break Move
If you are comfortable: Open MissingMoney.com or your state treasury site and run four searches. Your name, your spouse’s, any former name, and the state you lived in before this one. It is free, it takes about `10` minutes, and roughly one household in seven finds something.
If you are stretched: Do the same search and go through the state directly. If a company offers to recover money for a percentage, that money is already listed. You can claim it yourself for nothing.
Do it once a year, on the same day as something else you already do. The list only grows. No letter is coming to remind you.
